As the season fast approaches for Florida football, we are continuing our series of the freshmen on campus and what the odds are they appear this season with the Gators. If you follow recruiting, these will be household names. But if not, these can be a good refresher to catch you up to speed.

We have previously profiled:

Today we look at a depth piece along the offensive line, Bryce Lovett.

Florida Football: Pancake city

Billy Napier brought in four scholarship offensive linemen as part of the 2023 class. Bryce Lovett was the lowest rated of the four, but that doesn’t mean he is a turnstile waiting to happen.

Listed at 6’5″ and 330 pounds, Lovett was a four-star recruit by Rivals while being rated a three-star by the other three services. Florida was the only school he took an official visit to, though he did have offers from Syracuse, Louisville, and Vanderbilt, among others.

The one thing that stands out with Lovett on film is his willingness to be physical. He may not quite have the mobility that would stand out to make him a four-star, but once he gets his hands on you it isn’t going to end well for you.

We watch a decent amount of film on offensive linemen prospects, and not many are filled with the number of pancake blocks that the film for Lovett had.

You can view his entire film here.

Odds of redshirting: High

The reality for incoming offensive linemen is that they take time to develop. Between gaining functional strength and learning the complexities of the college game, it is incredibly rare for a true freshman to play.

On Florida’s roster, 12 of the 14 non-true freshmen listed as offensive linemen are a redshirt of some variety.

Lovett adds something, though, that a number of the 2023 freshmen bring to the table, and that is a mean streak in their film.

In time, don’t be surprised if he gets his chance down the road.
