It's been a busy week for the Gators, and plenty of headlines have been flying around about things that are almost exclusively off the field. We here at Hail Florida Hail try to cover as much of it as we can, but we also know it can be tricky to keep up sometimes.

So this is a new segment we are going to try called “The week that was with the Gators,,” and we'll recap some of the biggest stories in Florida sports from the past week.

Denzel Aberdeen’s eligibility returns to limbo

This one just dropped today, as Florida fans had thought that Denzel Aberdeen was in the clear to play for the 2026-27 season following the court ruling out of Colorado. But now the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals has granted a “stay,” putting that ruling on hold.

We would expect more court challenges to come.

Aaron Philo remains ahead in the QB competition

The big takeaway from Florida’s scrimmage last Saturday is that Aaron Philo got the bulk of the reps with the starters. And even though Philo threw an interception, Jon Sumral seems to be favoring Philo over Tramell Jones.

Florida’s offensive line is only half settled

One of the other things Sumrall talked about at his press conference is that he feels confident with the interior of the offensive line, but he still isn’t settled with the tackle spots.

Emeka Ugorji and Eagan Boyer are the two players currently slotted for the tackle spots, but it sounds like they still have work to do to solidify their positions.

Nobody knows what to expect from Florida

Florida was unranked in the AP preseason poll, which is probably fair enough given Florida’s recent results. What’s been notable, however, is how predictions range from 6-6 all the way to the playoffs.

And if we are being honest, neither result would shock us.

Evan Pryor emerges as an intriguing RB2 option

The transfer from Cincinnati spoke with the media this week. He is currently in a battle with Duke Clark to be Florida’s formal RB2 behind Jadan Baugh. Pryor has great speed, and he said he's focused on showcasing what he can do.

Florida’s receivers are respected, but not individually

No Florida wide receivers made it onto the Biletnikoff watch list, given to the best pass catcher in the country. It was a bit surprising, but based on how they put players on the list, it made sense.

Still, don’t sleep on the wide receiver room for Florida in 2026.

Several Gators receive preseason recognition

While Florida got no one on the Biletnikoff watch list, they did get five players on the Senior Bowl watch list. In addition, LJ McCray was put on the watchlist for Comeback Player of the Year.

Florida reveals its complete uniform schedule

After showcasing the uniforms on social media, the Gators formally announced which color combinations they would wear for each game.

Just don’t ask Sumrall if he cares what Florida is wearing.

Florida soccer earns its first win

After dropping its season opener to UCF, the Gators prevailed on Thursday night with a 3-2 win over Coastal Carolina. It’s the first win as Florida’s head coach for Nick Zimmerman.

Jack Pyburn wants to return to college

Former Gator Jack Pyburn is currently a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had two sacks in their preseason game last week. But apparently, he still wants to return to college, and a TRO from a Louisiana court is paving the way.
