It's been close to 72 hours since Jalen Brewster left campus and the Florida Gators are looking like a major threat to flip the Rivals/On3 top-rated player in the country from his longtime commitment to Texas Tech.
There's still a ways to go in this recruitment. Brewster is going to be in Lubbock for his official visit this weekend, and then we'll get a better idea of how close Jon Sumrall and the Gators staff is to making the biggest move during this recruiting cycle. Steve Wiltfong, the Rivals/On3 VP of Recruiting, believes that Florida is more than simply a live dog in Brewster's recruitment: The Gators might be the only team that the five-star defensive lineman would consider playing for other than the Red Raiders.Â

"Florida remains the biggest challenger to Texas Tech and I think they've poured a lot into this recruitment on and off the field," Wiltfong said on "The Inside Scoop." Obviously, he's given LSU a chance. Indiana is a program that they've always had a keen eye on. SMU has also been involved. But the three visits to Florida, the relationship with the coaching staff, the trajectory of the program, how much he just loves being at Florida and then having the resources to be in a recruitment like this...I think Florida is pushing Texas Tech at this point in the process."
5-star DL Jalen Brewster receives the family treatment at Florida
In recruiting, you always want to follow the visits, and Brewster's tracking device will tell you that he's very interested in being a Florida Gator. It seems like he has been in Gainesville for each of Jon Sumrall's major events, whether that was the first padded practice during the spring or the coach's first Orange and Blue spring game.Â

It seems like he has been in Gainesville for each of Jon Sumrall's major events, whether that was the first padded practice during the spring or the coach's first Orange and Blue spring game. And the fact that Florida got the penultimate visit before his trip to Texas Tech allowed the coaching staff to devote more time to him and his family as they seriously explored playing college football for the Gators.Â
"I think he feels very comfortable around the team and I think Jalen himself is excited about the potential opportunity to play college football inside the Swamp at Florida for this first year coaching staff," Wiltfong added. "His Dad tells me that after this [visit], they'll sit down and talk about where his son will play college football."
It's a very light official visit week for the Gators. The staff will welcome in one player, the top commit in the class, five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller. They will also be hosting a number of 2028 prospects that are arriving on Wednesday for the OL/DL camp and 7v7 tournament. But they will also be keeping an ear to the ground to see what happens with Brewster in Lubbock.Â
