Since Jon Sumrall has come to town, it’s been clear he has been trying to make the trenches a point of emphasis for Florida’s class of 2027. The Gators have already received one projection to land the top-rated offensive lineman, Maxwell Hiller, and Florida has several others in its sights.
But this weekend, the Gators will have the top-rated defensive lineman in the country in Gainesville with hopes of planting the seeds to pull off an improbable flip.
Jalen Brewster set to vist Florida this weekend
Jalen Brewster is a defensive lineman out of Texas. Listed at 6’3” and 302 pounds, all three major services have Brewster listed as their top-rated defensive lineman in the country.
On film, it is easy to see why. Brewster can move in a way that 300-pounders don’t typically move. The opening clip of his seven-minute junior film showcases him chasing down a running back downfield who had escaped along the edge. When anyone tries to go inside on Brewster, forget about it.
His first step is explosive, his power is too much, his closing speed is elite, and no one seems to have any answers for him, even if they double-team or chip. Brewster even plays a bit of fullback is a terrifying sight to see galloping down the field, clearing the way.
Both 247 and On3 have indicated that Brewster will be in town this weekend as part of a busy recruiting weekend for Sumrall and the Gators.
Getting Brewster to stick is going to be the tricky part. Currently, he is committed to Texas Tech, so the combination of proximity to home along with the newly found deep pockets of the Red Raiders will make a flip tough. Miami, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Indiana are among the schools also trying to make a push for Brewster.
He’s going to be an interesting early litmus test for Sumrall and Florida to see whether or not they can land the bona fide five-star guys, but it never hurts to get the elite guys on campus in the first place.
