After it became clear that Jon Sumrall and Florida had shifted their full focus to recruiting Davin Davidson as their quarterback in the 2027 class, the predictions from the websites started to roll in.

In the past week, recruiting writers from both On3/Rivals and 247Sports have logged predictions for Davidson to commit to the Gators. The four-star quarterback from Sarasota has a final five of Florida, Kentucky, Auburn, Notre Dame and Georgia.

Davidson will be making his announcement Thursday.

The Gators are heavy favorites for 4-star QB Davin Davidson

Sumrall has brought in a ton of quarterback prospects and, over the past few weeks, it seems like it has come down to two in-state prospects — Davidson and Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV. But timing might be the thing that has worked into Davidson's favor. He wants to make his commitment soon and has seen everything he wants to see. By making a commitment now, Davidson can take on the role of being an "ambassador" for his school during rhe busy recruiting period in May and June.

The connection between Florida and Davidson has been strong from the beginning. He was one of the first quarterbacks that Sumrall, offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner and quarterbacks coach Joe Craddock brought on to campus and offered. From that point forward, it seemed like it would just be a matter of time before Davidson became a member of the Gators' recruiting class.

Davidson is a recruit that's been on the rise all spring. He's been a star in many of the offseason prospect showcase events, which highlight his impressive size (6-foot-6, 215 pounds) and arm talent. He is also a winner, helping Cardinal Mooney win the Florida Class 3A state championship in late 2025.

If Davidson makes the expected commitment Thursday, it likely takes Florida off the quarterback market for the rest of this cycle. The Gators are still in the final four for five-star quarterback Elijah Haven, but much of his interest in Florida seemed to evaporate when Billy Napier was fired. Barring a major 11th-hour development, Davidson is going to be the guy for Sumrall.
