The Florida Gators need an arm in the 2027 class and while the No. 1 player at the position, Elijah Haven, still has them in his top four, that bus likely left the station when Billy Napier was fired.

Since Jon Sumrall arrived, the Gators have been taking in a lot of visits from quarterbacks, but On3/Rivals writer Adam Gorney says that the staff's top choice, Davin Davidson, is the one that's expected to make a commitment.

"This is the guy. Davin Davidson is definitely the top target," Gorney said. "He'd be a splashy pick because he's making a lot of headlines this offseason when he just really became a national name very quickly after doing some national events."

Among in-state quarterbacks, the name that everyone talks about is Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV, but Davidson has been a player that has really intrigued this staff since he visited in January and was offered. He's a big, athletic prospect that led Sarasota Cardinal Mooney to a state championship last season.

At nearly 6-foot-6, Davidson is an impressive physical prospect, and then you see the upside with arm talent and the ability to make some plays off schedule, which isn't always evident in taller quarterbacks.

"Florida's staff has prioritized him. He's an in-state kid, only a couple of hours away from Gainesville," Gorney added. "I think Davidson is comfortable with that situation. I think Florida absolutely loves that situation. I think it gets done."

The Gators still have a long way to go with their 2027 recruiting class. Florida has pledges from four-star athletes Amare Nugent and Tramond Collins and three-star tight end Jackson Ballinger. The hope is that things will start rolling on the trail behind all of the activity during the spring and Davidson's commitment could be the springboard for big things to happen in the summer.
