If one recalls last month, Florida fans had a really random and brief beef with Georgia Tech fans over center Harrison Moore. Georgia Tech coach Brent Key, as well as certain segments of their fanbase, had insinuated that the Yellow Jackets were better off at center this year after Moore transferred out.
Three weeks into the season, Georgia Tech fans look foolish as Moore was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week following Florida’s performance at Auburn.

Interestingly enough, Moore’s PFF grade wasn’t anything crazy. He had a total offensive grade of 71.3, and his run-blocking grade was just 69.1. But the deeper stats, along with the film, hint at the type of night Moore had.
On runs that were considered middle left or middle right, AKA in the gap that Moore would have a role clearing out, the Gators racked up 74 yards on 12 carries. That’s a healthy average of 6.1 yards per carry. Moore also gave up zero QB pressures on the night.
Perhaps just as important, he didn’t have any of the snap issues that he had to open the season against FAU. Jon Sumrall had noted after the FAU game that they knew the type of play and blocking assignment that was causing the snap issues, and it appears they have figured that out.
Also, if you are keeping score at home, Georgia Tech is already on to their second center of the season.
Moore highlights the fact that Florida’s offensive line as a whole has been far better than what the messaging was from Sumrall all throughout the offseason. The only glimpse Gator fans had of them was during the spring game, and the reviews from that afternoon weren’t great. In some ways, Florida’s offensive line is a bit of a rag-tag unit, but they have looked more than competent through three games.
Saturday night was supposed to be an intimidating test for all of Florida’s offense, and the Gators did take more penalties along the offensive line than one would have liked, but they also kept Aaron Philo upright most of the night and only gave up two QB hits on Philo with no sacks.
Moore may not be Jake Slaughter just yet, but he is someone Georgia Tech probably wishes they had back.
