Florida fans are used to having rivals from all over. Obviously Georiga, FSU, and Tennessee are the main ones in the modern era, but Auburn used to be a significant rival, LSU has morphed into one, and even though the Gators don’t cross paths with Miami too often, it’s usually chippy when they do.
But apparently Gator fans now need to also engage with Georgia Tech fans after an offseason where Florida raided the Yellow Jackets. And it’s not just the fans who are still salty about it.
Brent Key is still salty that Florida raided Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech Brent Key was asked at his press conference on Tuesday about the center position for the Yellow Jackets and how the position seems to have been in flux for the past couple of years.
Key made it clear it was a one-year problem:
“Just last year it was. Last year it really was. You want to get me really started? You already know the answer to that question.”

One of those centers in question that Key apparently wasn’t too fond of was Harrison Moore, who has since transferred to Florida. Moore took 692 snaps with Georgia Tech last year, with 427 of those coming at center. He was shuffled between center and guard.
It’s weird because when Moore first transferred to Florida, he didn’t come in advertised as a star per se, but we weren’t flooded with comments from Georgia Tech going, “Good, I’m glad he left. That dude sucked.” Even Georgia Tech’s SI site wrote a piece in October titled “Harrison Moore's Continued Development Paying Dividends For Georgia Tech,” where Georgia Tech’s offensive line coach, who is now at Nebraska, is quoted as saying:
“And let's be honest, Harrison (Moore) played half the game, the last four to five games of the season, and played well.”
So where is the disconnect coming from?
Georgia Tech fans will point to some snap issues that Moore had early in the season, but the underlying theme is that Moore is part of the group of Yellow Jackets who followed offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner to Florida. And let’s be honest, Key was a rumored candidate for the Florida job before the Gators went with Jon Sumrall.
Moore’s replacement is probably Alabama transfer Joseph Ionata, a former three-star who seldom saw the field in two years with the Crimson Tide. Is he an upgrade from Moore?
On paper, no, but if it helps you sleep at night, do what you need to do Georgia Tech.
