This weekend, the Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall hosted five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, the No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2027 and a current commit to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Sumrall put all of his chips on the table, bringing in a few of his current elite players and gratefully accepting a little help from Florida legends, including beloved linebacker Brandon Spikes, who won two National Championships with the Gators.
As Brewster made his way around campus, Spikes was never far from reach, appearing in multiple clips of the five-star prospect that were uploaded to social media.

A Texas native, it wasn't a huge surprise that Brewster committed to the Red Raiders, but he chose Texas Tech over a slew of other in-state powerhouses, including the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies.
Now, despite Brewster committing to a program just a few hours from his hometown, Sumrall and the Gators are as determined as ever to flip his decision in their direction.
Florida's current defensive line star KJ Ford was also in attendance, obviously participating in Florida's spring practices that were taking place while Brewster was in town. Ford was a top-200 prospect in the class of 2026 and the No. 31 recruit out of Texas.
Despite having offers from Texas Tech, Texas, Texas A&M, and dozens of other programs, Ford decided to bring his talents to Gainesville.
Now, the current Florida edge rusher, the legendary Florida linebacker, and Florida's head coach are all hoping that Brewster will decide to do the same.

Spikes played for the Gators from 2006 until 2009 before going on to become a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He was part of the Florida squads that secured the 2006 and 2008 BCS National Championships, was a unanimous and consensus All-American in 2008, and was a three-time first-team All-SEC honoree (2007-09).
Ford has yet to play a snap for the Gators, but lofty expectations are floating overhead for the young EDGE.
