Easton Royal was on campus for the Florida Gators 52-28 win over Ole Miss and just like that, the five-star wide playmaker got to have the true experience of what football is like when the Gators are good.
Royal had long planned his trip to Gainesville for the Ole Miss weekend, but little did he know that it would be the biggest game at the Swamp in about five years. The electric atmosphere grew to a fever pitch when the Gators were running up and down the field on the Rebels, with the display resulting in a 52-28 win that has Florida in the top 10 of the AP Poll for the first time in nearly six years.
But was it enough to draw the Gators closer to the top-ranked wide receiver in the 2027 class? The answer seems to be a resounding yes.

5-star WR Easton Royal says he could 100% see himself playing for Florida
The Gators have been in hot pursuit of Royal for over a year and despite taking in the spring game in April and having a great time during his official visit to campus over the summer, Florida has not been able to reel in the Texas commit.
But we're still a few months away from the Early Signing Period and Royal is still looking around. For the past several weeks, it appeared like LSU had the best shot at flipping the long-time Longhorns pledge and the Gators were fading. However, Royal's experience in the Swamp could be game-changing in the final stretch of his recruitment.
This might not be the last time that Royal checks out the Gators offense. Florida will travel to Austin on October 17 for what could be a battle between two undefeated teams in the top five. Maybe the winner will be Royal's eventual choice. I think Jon Sumrall would be more than happy to take that risk.
Still, there's no reason for Royal not to envision what life will be like in the Gators offense. He sees the way the offensive playmakers like Vernell Brown III, Dallas Wilson, Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark have been showcased over the first month. Aaron Philo is a young quarterback growing into his role and will only get better over the next two years.
If Royal was waiting for Sumrall to show that he could transform the Gators, he has now seen it in person. Florida is doing everything to make itself appealing to the top recruits in the country while Texas is stumbling on offense week after week. As long as that trend continues, Royal's decision might be an easy one to make.
