One of the bigger sagas from the summer was the recruitment of five-star wide receiver Easton Royal. The Gators had momentum at times, but seemingly fell off after an eventful official visit.
But if one wants to dream that Florida could still flip Royal, there is going to be one last chance to make a massive impression this weekend, as the highly coveted receiver is slated to be in The Swamp this weekend.
Florida has one last gasp to land Easton Royal this weekend
In case one needs a reminder, Royal is good. Really good. Last year, as a junior in high school, he had 2,095 all-purpose yards and scored 29 total TDs. His strength is his speed, and he has a 100-meter PR of 10.17 seconds. For perspective, that would have tied for 11th at the 2026 NCAA national championships.
But Royal has been committed to Texas since November, and despite the efforts of Florida, he has yet to back off that commitment. There are also the efforts of LSU, and back in July it was widely believed that Royal would be flipping to the Tigers.
Part of the belief as to why Florida fell out of the running is that they simply didn’t have a proof of concept to sell to Royal. Sure, it’s one thing to talk about a high-flying offense in Gainesville, but if we rewind to June and July, that’s something that hadn’t existed in Gainesville for five years.
But now that Jon Sumrall has Florida at 3-0 and Buster Faulkner has engineered an offense that currently has the 2nd most points in the country, one has to wonder if Royal is entering The Swamp on Saturday with a renewed interest in what could be possible if he were to flip to Florida.

Vernell Brown III has taken a massive leap into one of the country's more dynamic wide receivers, and Dallas Wilson is starting to live up to his five-star hype. You know Sumrall and Faulkner are going to fill Royal’s head with visions of how he could be next.
Of course, the counter is that none of Florida’s freshmen wide receivers are playing this year, and Faulkner might not stick around long enough for Royal to enjoy his offense.
But if Royal had to pick one game to attend in The Swamp in 2026, this Saturday is probably the best taste he is going to get. And as we say all the time, when it comes to someone with the talent of Royal, you keep calling until they stop picking up the phone.
