When Florida put up 66 points on FAU, the common retort from those on the outside was “Well, that’s just FAU.” The same retort was made when Florida put up 52 points against Campbell.
Fair enough.
But then Florida put up 44 points on Auburn, and the number of naysayers started to diminish. And now that Florida put up 52 points on Ole Miss, let’s just say it’s getting quiet.
The crazy part is that Florida is putting up points at a historical rate, all while they left points on the board on Saturday, and that should terrify everyone around the country.
Florida is putting up points at a rate never seen before
Last year, Florida scored a total of 259 points and had a total of 29 touchdowns. Through four games in 2026, the Gators have 214 points and 28 touchdowns.
That’s pretty good no matter how you slice it.
Sumrall is not only the first coach in Florida history to score at least 200 points through his first four games, but he is also the first coach in SEC history to put up at least 200 points through his first four games as the head coach.
And that’s with the backdrop of Aaron Philo missing a couple of throws early on that could have lit the scoreboard up even faster. Philo missed a deep shot early, and he missed a wide-open Amir Jackson on a 4th-down play. VB3 had a touchdown called back for holding on Bailey Stockton, and Stockton later dropped a pass on a 3rd-down play.
Florida also wasn’t exactly the most aggressive with the ball with 1:10 left and all of their time outs. And they were without VB3 for the second half, along with Eric Singleton Jr. still not being 100%.
And they still put up 52 points.
Georgia fans will try to point out that they have put up more points than the Gators this year. Congrats; they are also 88th in strength of schedule.
Sumrall said when he first arrived in Gainesville that he planned to light up the scoreboard. It sounded great on paper, but we didn’t have a proof of concept to point to. Now we have a proof of concept, and it should terrify every opposing defensive coordinator on Florida’s schedule for the rest of the season.
Because while the defense for Florida still has some questions to answer, this offense has a chance to pull Florida to heights no one pictured before the start of the season.
