Easton Royal is getting the celebrity treatment in Gainesville this weekend. The five-star wide receiver is back on campus to watch the Florida Gators host Ole Miss and the push from the locals has already got his attention.
A painted sign around campus said "Easton 2 the Swamp" and the New Orleans native was clearly thrilled to see that he was the talk of the town.

Florida is still actively trying to flip the Texas pledge. He was on campus over the summer for an official visit and coming out of that trip the reports were that the Gators would be the preferred team if he were to flip. But as time passed and Royal took more trips, Florida began to fade as it became a two-team race between LSU and the Longhorns.
But Jon Sumrall's proof of concept is real. The Gators are 3-0, ranked 21st in the country and that offense looks like one made for playmakers. There's no question that Royal is looking at the way Vernell Brown III, Jadan Baugh and Dallas Wilson are breaking off big plays and wondering what he could do in that uniform.
Royal is the top-rated wide receiver in the 2027 class and the 5th-best overall prospect in the country. No need to list Royal's offer list because he's got them from everywhere.

For as much as Royal looks around, he's still committed to Texas. Yes, he seems to like Gainesville and seems to like Baton Rouge and says all the right things, but there hasn't been a true seismic shift into the way he's thinking. There is a strong relationship with Royal and Sumrall, dating back to the days when the coach used to check on him while he was the head man at Tulane.
"He's been in Louisiana a long time … He knows a little bit about where Louisiana guys come from. I know he's a winner," Royal said over the summer.
Sumrall is a winner and Saturday afternoon was another opportunity for him to show that the culture he's cultivated in Gainesville and the promises he made to win now and win big weren't just bluster. Florida has had plenty of talent over the past few years, but the previous coach couldn't capitalize on a very good roster.
That's not a problem for Sumrall. He knows what he's got and has put the right coaches in place to make sure they are used to the peak of their potential. This is another chance for Royal to see the work in action and decide if he wants to be part of it.
