Should Florida fans hit the panic button after early camp injuries?

With the news coming out that Dallas Wilson is going to be sidelined for a couple of weeks with a "lower leg injury," Florida Gator fans are starting to look around and wonder if they need to locate their panic button.

In a vacuum, Wilson's injury shouldn't be a huge deal long term, but he joins a quickly growing list of guys who are starting to spend their fall camp in the training room rather than on the practice field.

Five wide receivers already hurt for Florida

Wilson joins the list of Eugene Wilson, Aidan Mizell, Kahleil Jackson, and Muizz Tounkara of wide receivers who are banged up. Outside of Jackson, who is still trying to come back from tearing his ACL last season, everyone else was considered "healthy" when camp began last week.

All the setbacks Florida's wide receivers have had are considered "minor," and on paper, everyone should be good to go come the end of the month against LIU.

But combined with the calf injury to DJ Lagway and the hamstring issue Treyaun Webb has, the Gators have racked up a massive list of guys banged up before even starting the contact portion of camp.

As guys ramp up and try to get to full speed, nicks and dings are going to happen, and until a "major" injury happens, it isn't cause for panic just yet.

It's also not unfair to wonder aloud why this many guys have gone down while running against air. When this many guys go down, attention turns to the strength and conditioning program, currently led by Tyler Miles.

Because the real issue, as we have said throughout with the Lagway injury, is that Florida is missing out on getting reps with its full 1st team offense.

At the rate we are going, the LIU game is going to be the first time the Gators have the entire first team together, actually going through plays.

The good news for now is that Jackson, Mizell, and Wilson were all spotted at practice on Thursday wearing non-contact jerseys. However, according to Graham Hall of Swamp 247, none of them ran a route during the open viewing session of practice, so take that for what it is worth.

The one saving grace is how Florida has its schedule set up in 2025. Unlike the past three years when it had to open against a Power Four opponent, Florida does get to ease into things before taking on LSU in week three.

But if things look sloppy early in the season, the missed time at camp will be something to cycle back to.
