The Florida Gators are searching for commitment No. 20, and it could come this weekend.
Jon Sumrall and staff have a lot of irons in the heat right now and there's a good chance that one of them catches fire before the weekend is over. There's four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin, a thumper from Gainesville, Georgia, that will be choosing between the Gators, LSU and FSU (yeah, right) on Saturday. But McGaskin isn't the only player to keep an eye on.
Defensive back Kamarion Johnson, another Georgia prospect, will be taking his official visit to Florida this weekend. The Gators are trending well heading into the trip, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the 6-foot, 190-pound safety make a decision.
On this week’s episode of the Swamp247 Recruiting Podcast, 2027 ATH Kamarion Johnson hopped on the pod.

"I'm looking to spend more time with the coaches," Johnson said to 247Sports' Tyler Harden in the Swamp247 Recruiting podcast. "I went to the spring game, but I had to do something, so I couldn't stay for very long. I couldn't really experience it."
Kamarion Johnson could be the Swiss army knife that Jon Sumrall is looking for
Johnson is listed as a defensive back and projects to be a safety, but nothing is set in stone yet, and Sumrall has made it clear that he is simply looking at him as a football player. That makes perfect sense because Johnson did a little bit of everything at Clinch County High in Homerville, Georgia. He put up some crazy numbers as a wide receiver, hauling in 38 passes for 828 yards and 11 touchdowns on offense. Johnson was also a full-time defensive player and did some work in the return game.
The three-star prospect on both 247Sports and Rivals has a great athletic profile. Johnson has played some basketball and is a state qualifier in track. He has the right size to be a defensive back, a running back or a wide receiver, and if he comes on campus and happens to add 20–25 pounds to his frame, Johnson could project as a linebacker or a big defender in the box. Johnson said that he prefers playing in the secondary if he had to choose a spot.
This a player that Sumrall is very high on, and that shows in the way that Johnson told Harden about his relationship with the Gators coach.
"It's been great. He just checks up on me and my family. It feels good that a head coach is consistently checking on me and my family. It lets me know he really wants me to be part of his team," Johnson said. "He has great energy."
Expect Sumrall and Johnson to continue to build that close relationship this weekend when the staff can give their full attention to him, and he will have the opportunity to bond with many of the Florida commits that will also be on campus. This is coming off the heels of the commitment of four-star defensive lineman Zahmar Tookes. It's going to be tough for Johnson to leave Gainesville without becoming a Gator.
