We've barely gotten into June and the Florida Gators are now at 20 commitments after the pledge of four-star defensive lineman Zahmar Tookes, who made his decision Tuesday afternoon.

The announcement was not a surprise. Tookes seemed to be on the verge of making a commitment while he was on campus for his official visit this past weekend, but decided to get back home to Rochester, New York, before choosing the Gators over Penn State, Nebraska, Georgia and others.

Tookes was supposed to take an official visit to Penn State this weekend, but that visit was canceled earlier this week, and he has decided to shut his recruitment down.

4-star DL Zahmar Tookes gives Florida its 20th commitment

Tookes continues the recent surge of defensive prospects that have committed to the Gators. He joins four-star linebacker Ja'Bios Smith, who pledged to Florida over the weekend. Both players raved about their visits to Gainesville.

"I couldn't wait to get back here," Tookes told 247Sports following the official visit. "Just being around the players a little bit more, Coach Stack, Coach Smoke, Coach [Gerald] Chatman. It was really exciting this weekend."

We're in the middle of a major recruiting surge for the Gators that have them with a top-five class. It's a class that's deep with blue-chip talent. Five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller committed nearly two months ago and, since then, eight of the ten four-star recruits in the class have committed.

Tookes is the fourth defensive lineman in the class, four-star prospect Stive-Bentley Keumajou Yondui, in-state De'Voun Kendrick and three-star recruit Cain Van Norden. Sumrall is on the hunt for more with the hope that five-star defensive tackle Jalen Brewster will decide to come back on campus for an official visit before the summer dead period begins.

What's next for Florida's top-five recruiting class?

The Gators have another packed weekend coming up with over a dozen official visitors on the schedule, including several commitments. This will be a chance for future teammates to bond as four-star quarterback Davin Davidson, four-star running back Andrew Beard, four-star wide receiver Elias Pearl and in-state speedster Anthony Jennings will be on campus and surely talking with offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner about the way they will light up the scoreboard in the coming years.

There are also several targets on campus. Don't be surprised if Sumrall tries to strike in Georgia again with three-star defensive back Kamarion Johnson on campus. Johnson, who is from Gainesville, Georgia, is taking his first scheduled official visit of the summer and has FSU and Cincinnati also on the schedule. Florida is thought to be the leader in Johnson's recruitment and if that's the case, Sumrall will look to seal the deal this weekend while dealing another blow to the struggling rivals two hours west.

Right now, Florida is the hot school on the trail and every recruit that comes across Sumrall seems to decide that they want to be part of what he's building.
