Jon Sumrall and Florida are on the verge of adding a 4-star thumper to their top-5 class

Linebacker Ellis McGaskin has been trending to the Gators and now he's ready to let the world know

Jon Sumrall is on the verge of getting a solid two-for-one in recruiting.

Not only are the Florida Gators a big favorite for four-star linebacker Elllis McGaskin off of a successful official visit to Gainesville, but Sumrall has a chance to get a recruiting win over two of the biggest rivals. McGaskin will make his decision on June 6 and is choosing between Florida, FSU and LSU. The On3/Rivals predictor heavily favors the Gators and the site's vice president of recruiting, Steve Wiltfong, has recently made a prediction for the Gators to land the 6-foot, 210-pound defender

McGaskin was scheduled to take an official visit to Georgia this weekend, but considering the Bulldogs aren't even in his final group, it's unlikely that trip will happen if t hasn't been canceled already. His official visits to FSU on June 12 and LSU on June 19 also could be removed from the schedule.

This is a tackling machine. McGaskin has 160 tackles and 26 tackles for loss at Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama. It's the type of player that should do quite well in Brad White's defense, playing on the interior.

Florida is hitting another surge in recruiting at the right time

The Gators' class is already ranked 5th overall nationally by both 247Sports and On3/Rivals. If McGaskin makes his pledge to Florida as expected, he would join four-star linebacker Ja'Bios Smith and four-star offensive tackle Kennedee Jackson as commits that have joined the Gators during or directly after their official visit. Florida was securely in the lead for McGaskin heading into last weekend's official visit and, as the linebacker told Tyler Harden of 247Sports, that feeling didn't change. He added that the urge was there to pull the trigger during his visit.

"It was overly tempting, but I want to explore a little bit," McGaskin said. "Because you want to go through this experience once in your lifetime. So I just want to go out and see what else is out there."

Florida is already sitting at 19 commitments and the general belief is that Sumrall is looking for a pretty large class in his first full offseason. There might be a higher number of outgoing transfers after the upcoming season just through attrition and re-evaluations after seeing how some players perform on the field.

McGaskin is not only a good fit for White's defense, but he fits that Sumrall profile of tough, hard-nosed kids. Sumrall wants great athletes as well. He knows that you can't win in the SEC without some elite athletes, but he also knows that the Gators might not be able to "out athlete" teams, so they will have to win with physicality and will.

This should bode well for another big weekend of official visits as Sumrall and the Gators staff look to keep the momentum going strong.
