The headliner for Junior Day on Saturday for the Gators was Champ Monds. The highly rated QB recently reclassified from 2028 to 2027 and will be at the top of a lot of recruiting boards this cycle.
But Florida had a second QB on campus on Saturday during Junior Day and made an offer to a prospect who isn’t highly ranked but does have plenty of upside.
Florida offers QB Davin Davidson
Davin Davidson is a three-star QB out of Sarasota. Listed at 6’6” and 210 pounds, he took over the reins at Cardinal Mooney this season and threw for 2,360 yards, 23 TDs, and led the Cougars to the 2A state title after blowing out Bolles in the title game.
On film, Davidson stands tall and doesn’t seem to panic much in the pocket. He frequently is able to fire throws into tight windows, and he is very comfortable when having to throw on the run, despite his lanky frame that could make throws like that a challenge.
He has some scramble ability, but it is not a key component of his game.
Right now, 247 is the only site that has him ranked, but we have to imagine that is going to change once all the major sites update their rankings. Compared to a QB like Monds, he doesn’t have the immediate arm strength on film that would vault him into five-star status, but we could see Davidson settling in as a lower-tier four-star once the updates come through.
January has been a busy month for Davidson, and in the last week, he has gotten offers from Duke, Miami, Iowa, Virginia Tech, UNC, and FSU.
We’ll see if Davidson winds up back on campus for either the Spring Game or for an official visit this summer, but he will be someone to keep an eye on as his recruitment starts to heat up.
