Mark the Florida Gators down for a July commitment!
In-state defensive back Kamauri Whitfield became the latest recruit to commit to the Gators and gives Jon Sumrall a class of 25 pledges. Whitfield, who had been a long-time lean to Florida, made his commitment on the 247Sports YouTube Channel on Monday, picking the Gators over Nebraska and Oregon.

"The energy in the building is just different. Coach Sumrall brings a whole type of different kind of energy into the building. I believe they are going to win, and they are going to win it all. Go Gators," Whitfield exclaimed. "[Sumrall] is a proven winner."
Whitfield took his official visit to Gainesville on May 28 and, by all accounts, he was prime for a commitment before leaving town. However, the Orlando-area prospect decided to go through with scheduled visits to the other programs on his final list. Whitfield has a three-star ranking on both 247Sports and Rivals/On3. The offer list is impressive with Tennessee, Florida State, Auburn, Indiana, North Carolina, Miami, Kentucky, Maryland, Wisconsin and a host of others taking a stab at the 5-foot-10, 185-pound corner.
The newest Gator commit told 247Sports' Tom Loy that he had been silently committed for about two weeks.

In-state cornerback Kamauri Whitfield chooses Florida over Big Ten opposition
Whitfield, who was committed to Tennessee earlier in this recruiting cycle, is rated as a top-50 player in Florida, and he'll join a solid group of cornerbacks in the Gators' class that include in-state prospect Amare Nugent and composite four-star prospect Aamaury Fountain, who flipped to the Gators from South Carolina much earlier in the cycle.
In an earlier film review, Hail Florida Hail's Benjamin Henderson describes an active, athletic player in the secondary that doesn't let his size determine his physicality.
But despite being a tick shorter than most four-star defensive backs, Whitfield plays with an edge on film that is hard to miss. He is moved all over the field, but he seems to shine most when he gets to play nickel corner. His read of the game is excellent as he doesn’t overpursue and keeps his lane well. When he gets a chance to make a hit, he hits sometimes like a 6’3” linebacker rather than a 5’10” defensive back.
How does the Gators' 2027 class rank nationally?
Florida has been able to hold on to a top-10 class and adding another commitment should continue to keep the Gators in that area. It's the fifth-highest ranked class in the SEC, behind Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma and Auburn.
One area where Sumrall has gained some traction is with in-state prospects. Whitfield becomes the eighth player from the state to commit to the Gators and, if you add that to the five prospects from Georgia that have pledged to Florida, it's been a solid haul for Sumrall in Florida's traditional recruiting area.
