Florida’s 2027 quarterback just got a huge endorsement from a film analyst

Davin Davidson was a great grab for Jon Sumrall

When QB Davin Davidson first popped onto the recruiting radar for the Gators, he was still a relatively unranked prospect. Davidson was coming off a state title with Cardinal Mooney in Sarasota and had a ton of qualities we liked; his star ranking just hadn’t caught up to the vision that Jon Sumrall and company had for him.

Davidson ultimately committed to Florida to be its QB for the class of 2027, and his star ranking has also shot up. He also got an invite to the Elite 11 Finals, which are taking place this weekend.

Whatever happens this weekend in terms of how much it equates to real football is up for debate, but at least one notable analyst loves what he sees from Davidson when it comes to real football.

Florida QB Davin Davidson has great film

Content creator Brooks Austin of The Film Guy Network ranked the QBs competing at Elite 11 Finals based solely on the film he has watched of them.

Coming in at No. 1 is Davidson.

This might be a surprise to people who go solely on star rankings, and Austin’s list is accused by some of being rage bait to put Davidson on top when he barely cracks the top ten among QBs when it comes to star rankings, but anyone who has seen his film wouldn’t think this is too outlandish.

When we first previewed Davidson back in January when he first popped up on Florida’s radar and the Gators were seemingly more interested in a couple of other QBs at the time, we said:

“Davidson stands tall and doesn’t seem to panic much in the pocket. He frequently is able to fire throws into tight windows, and he is very comfortable when having to throw on the run, despite his lanky frame that could make throws like that a challenge.

He has some scramble ability, but it is not a key component of his game.”

The only thing that seemingly hurts Davidson’s star ranking is that he doesn’t have the arm strength on film that some others have. As we just learned with DJ Lagway though, arm strength isn’t everything when it comes to being a SEC level QB.

Austin’s rankings are ultimately validation that just because someone doesn’t have stars next to their name right away, it is useful to watch their film and make observations on your own.
