The news that some fans weren't expecting arrived on Monday morning, as former 5-star signee DJ Lagway announced that he's going to enter the transfer portal. Lagway is now expected to draw plenty of interest once he's officially in the portal.
Jon Sumrall's first Florida test is picking a 2026 QB fans can believe in
So, who could the Gators and new head coach Jon Sumrall target to run the offense for next season? Several names have been mentioned as possibilities, but there's one in particular that fans need to keep a close eye on. That'd be Georgia Tech signal-caller Aaron Philo.
The 6-2, 220-pounder just wrapped up his second season on campus at Georgia Tech, seeing limited action behind standout QB Haynes King. According to On3's Kelly Quinlan, the Gators apparently have their eyes on Philo. Might Sumrall get him to play in the SEC instead of the ACC next campaign?

New Florida OC Buster Faulkner could help the Gators land Aaron Philo
As Quinlan referenced, Philo is expected to be GT's starting quarterback next season. With him getting ready to take over for King, it seems like him leaving after waiting his turn wouldn't make much sense. However, Sumrall could look to sell him on all the things he's hoping to change now that he's with Florida.
What might make a difference here too is that offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner was previously with the Yellow Jackets, but he has since made the move to Gainesville to join Sumrall's staff. With Faulkner helping to bring Philo along, the young QB may look to keep developing under his former OC.
That's all up in the air, though. This past season, Philo appeared in two games for Georgia Tech, throwing for 373 yards and one touchdown. After signing with Georgia Tech as a member of the 2024 class, he's getting ready for his third college season once next fall gets here.
Will he end up staying with the Yellow Jackets or pack his bags for Florida? As of this writing, Philo is yet to reveal any plans to enter the transfer portal once things open up in early January. However, with Faulkner, Sumrall and others reportedly showing interest, that could change here pretty soon. Stay tuned to see if that goes down or not.
