Florida’s pursuit of five-star wide receiver Easton Royal has been a bit quiet as of late. After Royal took his official visit to Gainesville last month alongside fellow five-star Jalen Brewster, there hasn’t been much indication that Jon Sumrall is going to get Royal to flip from Texas to Florida.
And so, as Royal made a change to his social media profile that features him in a Gator uniform, Florida fans are a bit skeptical as to what it all could actually mean.
Easton Royal changes IG profile picture to a Gator uniform
On his Instagram profile, Royal changed his profile picture to one of him holding the Heisman Trophy in a Gator uniform from one of his photo shoots while in Gainesville. The timing of the switch is somewhat notable since it came right as another five-star wide receiver, Monshun Sales, committed to Indiana instead of Texas.

Gator fans don’t seem convinced this is actually good news for Florida, as seasoned recruiting followers have seen this film before and didn’t like the ending. Whether this is a troll job, an attempt to extract more money from Texas, or just recruits being recruits and having fun with the process, Royal’s post doesn’t seem to pass the smell test for someone who would actually flip to Gainesville.
But that doesn’t mean Sumrall is going to stop trying, and as we have chronicled throughout his recruiting process, there is a reason Royal is so coveted in the class of 2027. And while there is some belief that Royal could make a final decision towards the end of the month, the longer Royal continues to string this out, the longer it leaves the door open for Florida to swoop in and pull off the flip.
On the bright side for Florida fans, the 2027 wide receiver class set to arrive in Gainesville is already stacked, with or without Royal. That’s not to say Florida should give up in this pursuit, but it is important to keep in mind that the Gators already have three four-star commits at the position, led by top 100 overall prospect Elias Pearl.
So while Gator fans will continue to wish upon a star and hope that Royal is being genuine when he posts himself in a Gator uniform, things are going to be alright for Sumrall and crew no matter how this recruitment ultimately ends, whenever that may be.
