From the Ivy League to playing for the national champs? It turn out that's going to be the case for Princeton transfer point guard Xaivian Lee. The veteran guard was down to three finalists in Florida, St. John's and Kansas, but he ultimately decided Gainesville is the right place for him.
Lee recently took his official visit to campus and it sure looks like his head-turning stay in town played a huge role in him shutting down his recruitment and announcing for the Gators on Wednesday night. Oh and by the way, his commitment came in the best way possible, with Lee posting on social media two pictures of himself in a swamp, with his native Canada's flag with him and the NCAA title trophy in the water too in the mouth of a Gator. Just awesome.
Princeton PG Xaivian Lee has announced his commitment to the Florida Gators
This no question is a tremendous addition for Florida basketball. This past season, Walter Clayton Jr. was a joy to watch, helping power the Gators to the natty. However, the NBA is calling and Clayton is off to the pros after his dream run with the SEC powerhouse.
A new floor general is needed, which is exactly where Lee will come in. This past season, he averaged 16.9 points and 5.5 assists. The season before, the 6-4, 180-pounder from Toronto poured in 17.1 points per game, adding 3.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds per outing.
This offseason, plenty of schools showed high interest in Lee. Can you blame all the coaching staffs for that? Absolutely not, as the new Gators pledge was easily one of the top transfer point guards available. It wasn't easy for Golden and Florida, but they've been able to win a huge recruiting battle. Already, Florida fans are fired up to see what Lee can get done for this team next campaign.
