Florida receiver Eric Singleton Jr.’s availability for his return to Jordan-Hare will now be determined at game time.
The former Georgia Tech and Auburn receiver appeared in just one game for the Gators, the Florida Atlantic game, where he rolled his ankle early, ending his day and his 37-game streak of catching a pass.
Before the injury, Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner planned to use Singleton a lot in the passing game. Singleton would line up in the slot and play the same role as he did the last time he and Faulkner paired up with the Yellow Jackets.
“Me and Buster [Faulkner] have a tight connection,” Singleton said. “I definitely think he knows how to use me, especially with the two years I had under his wing.”

In those two years, Singleton recorded his best college seasons, posting 700 yards in both seasons as a Yellow Jacket before taking his talents to the SEC to play under Hugh Freeze at Auburn. Former Auburn coach Freeze could never quite maximize Singleton’s explosive talents. While Singleton posted a career best in receptions, every other number declined.
Singleton never struggled to get the ball in his hands; his consecutive catching streak proved that. Under Freeze, he had 200 fewer yards with four fewer yards per reception, going from 13 to 9 yards per reception.
“I just wasn’t really satisfied with how my last season went,” Singleton said. “I feel like I have a lot more to prove.”
This season will extend beyond the Auburn game, making Florida coach Jon Sumrall less rushed to bring Singleton back so soon.
“Do we want them both [Singleton and Emmanuel Oyebadejo] back? Yeah,” Sumrall said. “But at the same time, we got to be smart tough, not dumb tough.”
It’s a coin flip on whether Florida fans will get to see the Singleton reunion with Auburn story play out, but no matter the outcome, Singleton will still strive to make his Florida return for a proper debut.
The only other player listed on the availability report for Florida is Emmanuel Oyebadejo. The defensive lineman who transfered in from Jacksonville State was also banged up in the FAU game and did not play against Campbell. Like Singleton, he is listed as questionable.
