As the video game College Football 26 gets closer and closer to being released, EA Sports has been slowly dropping out their rankings. They have dropped their list of the top 100 players, and while Jake Slaughter made the cut, DJ Lagway was left off the list.
Considering the Gator QB is literally on the cover of the game, this feels like a bit of a bait and switch.
DJ Lagway left off the top 100 players from EA Sports
Jeremiah Smith, the one-time Gator target and current Ohio State WR, is the highest-rated player in the game with a rating of 98. Slaughter comes in with a rating of 92 and is the highest-rated center in the game. Notably, he also has the same rating as Colorado LT Jordan Seaton, another one-time Gator target.
But when you get to the end of the list, there are seven QBs listed, and Lagway is not one of them. Cade Klubnik, Drew Allar, Garrett Nussmeier, Carson Beck, John Mateer, LaNorris Sellers, and Sam Leavitt have all been graded higher than Lagway.
Keep in mind, Lagway flew out to the Rose Bowl and is next to Tim Tebow on the Deluxe Edition cover of the game, but apparently, he couldn't convince EA Sports to give him a higher rating.
It's actually surprising Arch Manning didn't make the cut either, but Carson Beck and John Mateer are the two that have Gator fans turning their heads.
Florida had Beck dead to rights last season and probably would have beaten Georgia had Lagway not gotten hurt. Add in that the Georgia fans are exactly distraught that he left for Miami, and he is here on name recognition alone.
Mateer might wind up being a nice addition for Oklahoma after he transferred from Washington State, but virtually no SEC Preseason QB rankings have Mateer rated ahead of Lagway.
College Football 26 will be released on July 10, with early access available starting on July 7.
