Always be 'crootin'. Jon Sumrall may not be a patient man, so he should know all too well how to rebuild a program in a hurry. It only took two years at Tulane for him to get the Florida job, and only two years at Troy to get the Tulane gig. While he is no longer a job-hopper, it is all about laying the foundation for Florida moving forward. It all starts by being able to flip Jalen Brewster in this cycle.

The five-star defenisve lineman who is committed to Texas Tech was in Gainesville over the weekend.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Brewster is the No. 1 player from Texas, the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country, and the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle. The Cedar Hill standout has been committed to Texas Tech since early October. While the Red Raiders have a bevy of financial resources at their disposal, there is reason to believe that Brewster is prime to be flipped.

He has 29 official offers including Alabama, Georgia, and Miami, in addition to Florida and Texas Tech.

Jalen Brewster looks like he had a good time while he was visiting Florida

Florida is not messing around in its hot pursuit of Brewster. Sumrall is proving to be quite different from his predecessor in Billy Napier. It is why five-star interior offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller has been crystal balled to Florida already. To get a pair of five-stars in the trenches in the same recruiting class would put the rest of the SEC on notice. Winning in the trenches is how you win during SEC play.

Clearly, Florida is not leaving any stones unturned when it comes to potentially flipping Brewster away from Texas Tech. Florida legend Brandon Spikes let it be known he is helping Sumrall pull this one off. It is still so incredibly early into Sumrall's run in Gainesville, but things seem to be trending up under him. From an unbiased perspective, this hire feels different for Florida. Will it manifest into anything?

At this time, Florida pushing its chips into the center of the table in going after the best player in the country, that certainly speaks volumes. Florida might not be able to flip him, but it shows that this program will operate with no fear whatsoever under Sumrall. Although he has never been a head coach at the Power Four level before, he seems to be recruiting above his skis in these early stages.

Right now, it would be foolish for anyone to short what Sumrall believes he is capable leading Florida.
