It's funny how things change in a week.
At this time last week, Florida football was considered a non-factor. It seemed like half of the recruiting class was going to Tallahassee to watch FSU-Miami and Billy Napier wasn't even trying to recruit anymore since he was waiting to receive his walking papers.
And then Saturday happened. A 29-21 win over Texas at the Swamp changed everything. And at least one commit from the 2026 class proclaimed he was all-in with the Gators.

There's nothing to say JaReylan McCoy wasn't solid to the Gators all along. Outside of a reported visit to Mississippi State, the 6-foot-6 defensive line prospect from Tupelo, Mississippi, committed to the program at the end of May and has always seemed pretty solid. But there's something about a big win that makes "Get me off flip watch" hit differently.
Fans tend to think that recruits hear the outside noise like they do and that's often not the case. Nearly every recruit sees himself as part of the solution. If a program is struggling, the recruits are coming in to make things better. They want to be known as that class that turned things around.
There were a host of commits and targets, like McCoy, who saw what The Swamp is like when Gator football is hot. That's what they expect to happen regularly when they arrive on campus.
Sticking with the original plan
There were some Florida commits, like tight end Heze Kent, that decided to go to Tallahassee and watch FSU-Miami, but others that were scheduled to go there and backed down at the last minute. Local 4-star commit Justin Williams was one of the commits that changed his plans in the final hours and stayed back to watch the Gators.
Williams lives in Gainesville, so the commute to the Swamp was much easier for him than going two hours to Tallahassee, but it also showed that this class isn't as rocky as what we may have thought previously. All they were looking for was a reason to believe, and on Saturday they got it.
