The Philadelphia Eagles struck gold with UDFA WR Trevon Grimes
By Jeremy Klump
Former Florida Gators wide receiver Trevon Grimes did not get drafted in the 2021 NFL Draft. Grimes’ slide out of the entire draft was a head-scratching development, as I thought he would go as high as the 2nd round and only as low as the 4th round. I did not expect to write about Grimes as an undrafted free agent.
There may have been something we do not know about, like a flagged medical situation, a failed physical, or something along those lines, but whatever the reason, Grimes did not get drafted.

His talent definitely was not the reason for him going undrafted, as Grimes flashed a lot at Florida. He may not be the greatest route runner, but Grimes is a beast in contested catch situations, and he dominated SEC defensive backs in 2020. Grimes scored nine touchdowns last season, with his best score coming against Alabama in the SEC championship. Grimes outworked first-round pick Patrick Surtain II for the ball and then took it to the house. It was an excellent way for Gators fans to remember Grimes’ time as a Gator.
Grimes had a solid Pro Day too, so I really did not expect him to not be drafted. However, I did predict the Philadelphia Eagles would draft him, and even though they did not draft Grimes, they did sign him as an undrafted free agent.
Grimes fits what Philadelphia needs in an outside receiver. After their failed experiment with former 2nd round pick JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Philadelphia was luckily to add Grimes. I think Philly will be able to cut ties with Arcega-Whiteside and get better production from Grimes for cheaper.
Grimes may have gone undrafted, but I think the Eagles struck gold with their newly acquired wide receiver. The former Gators receiver should make some plays in Year 1 and give them a receiver they can count on for years to come.
