Florida football got a big win on Saturday over then-11th-ranked Tennessee, and now try to look forward to the rest of their season.

We talked about how consistency is critical to staying focused amidst success and big wins in order to keep the season on track and win all the games you’re supposed to win.

But Billy Napier doesn’t seem very pleased with the way that the team is handling their big win last weekend.

Napier said that Tuesday’s practice could have been better when it came to the team handling success and staying focused. (per @AndrewSpiveyGC)

Florida football: Pros and cons

Here’s Napier’s full quote:

"“I thought they could have done a little better, yesterday, to be quite honest…Ultimately, that’s to be determined. It’s important you prepare with some humility, and also, some fear.”"

There are pros and cons of Napier coming out and saying this leading up to the Gators’ week four game against Charlotte.

Let’s start with the cons.

The team clearly wasn’t very focused on Tuesday, whether that was on the field or in the film room, and let their win on Saturday get to their heads.

This is very dangerous, especially for a team that still has a lot to prove, and could lead to them not playing their best in games that should be easy for them to win.

But let’s flip to the pros.

Napier coming out and saying this shows that he’s being crystal clear with the way that the team is practicing, and is willing to hold his team accountable to the media.

Saying this publically should go a long way in lighting a fire under the team and motivating them to stay locked in, even after big wins.

Gator fans have been wishing for accountability for years, especially when it came to the last coaching regime.

With Napier, we’re getting that accountability from both the coaches and the players, which is the sign of a team that wants to be great.

I’d expect practices the rest of the week to be much better than Tuesday.
