The Florida Gators have some outstanding pass catchers in the 2021 NFL Draft. It all starts with the No. 1 player in the 2021 NFL Draft, former Gators tight end Kyle Pitts. After Pitts, former Gators receiver Kadarius Toney has been receiving a lot of pre-draft hype as well. However, another pass-catcher from the Gators has not been talked about enough, and that is former Gators receiver Trevon Grimes.

Grimes is a former 5-star recruit that transferred to the Gators from Ohio State. In his first season in Gainesville, Grimes caught 26 passes for 364 yards and two scores. He followed that up with 33 catches for 491 yards and three scores. In his final season as a Gators, Grimes played his best football. He caught 38 passes for 589 yards and an impressive nine touchdowns.

It makes sense that Grimes has not receiver much hype as we get closer to the 2021 NFL Draft, mainly because Pitts and Toney are polarizing. Some people feel Pitts can be a Hall of Fame player, and Toney looks like he will be an instant weapon in the NFL.

That does not mean Grimes doesn’t bring anything special to the table, because in my opinion, he does. Grimes is a big dude, standing at 6-4 and weighing in at 220 pounds.

You would think with that size, he would be slow, but Grimes tested well at the Gators’ Pro Day, running a 4.49 40-yard dash. He also added a 35″ vertical, a 9-10 broad jump, a 4.28 short shuttle, and 15 reps of 225.

It was an impressive day for Grimes and undoubtedly helped his draft stock.

Where will Trevon Grimes be drafted in the 2021 NFL Draft?

I believe Grimes’ draft stock is promising, and I think he could go as early as the 2nd round, but no later than the 4th round. I think he will definitely be a Day 2 pick, and a team will get a very good value for a player who will be in the NFL for a very long time.

Grimes is a hard worker and really takes pride in his run blocking. He also is a natural hands catcher, and he can pluck the ball out of the air. Grimes really bullied some defensive backs in college as well. He made some spectacular contested catches and showed he can be a man amongst boys when on the field.

He will need to show that he can run routes effectively in the NFL, but I think he will be a red zone threat at a bare minimum. Whoever does draft Grimes will not be disappointed, as the former Gator should have a successful NFL career.
