Florida football: Florida offense vs Missouri defense
Each week we like to take a look at the Florida football offense against the opposing team’s defense. This week the Gators take on Missouri in Columbia.
Last week the Florida football offense was on a roll and put up great numbers in their 56-0 win against Vanderbilt.
All parts, from the QB to the line was rolling and yes even the running game. Missouri’s defense did not bold as well.
They lost to Georgia 27-0 in a game that was won by the domination of Georgia’s defense and lack of Missouri offense. This week should be a good battle between the two.
Florida football offense
What can you say about the Florida football offense last week? They had it going from the start to finish. well okay, a slow start but that last half was a dominant performance.
Scoring 56 points was a great showing that the Gators believe they still have something to play for. They did not look complacent or show any signs of letting up.
Last week Kyle Trask had another great game. He went 25 of 37 for 363 yards and three touchdowns. He also had two bad interceptions in the first half but they led to no points for Vanderbilt. Trask has proven he can handle being the head of this team.
Missouri has a nice pass rush, they put the pressure on Georgia’s QB Fromm all day. They held Fromm to 13 of 29 for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
It will take a good effort from the line of Florida’s offense to set the tone. The line for Gators had a pretty good game, they allowed only two sacks. And the running game, well when your two QB’s are in your top three runners for the day, it says a lot.
Emory Jones had a good game on the ground. He ran for three touchdowns on 34 yards. Very efficient and knows how to find the end zone. Kadarius Toney was the leading rusher with 39 yards on two carries. Once again a less than stellar production from the running game. Missouri held Georgia to 166 yards rushing, they can stop a running game.

The receiver group did as they always do, performed at a high level. Trevon Grimes was the star of the week with 95 yards and a touchdown.
And what can you say about Kyle Pitts that has not already been said? The guy is a match-up nightmare for opposing teams. He had 59 yards and a touchdown as well.
Once again 10 guys caught passes from the QB’s, with so many talented and experienced receivers it is hard for the opposition to simulate what, and mainly who will be in and targeted. I give the matchup to this group of receivers over any backfield in America, this week no different.
Missouri defense
Don’t let the record of the Tigers hold as a measure on their defense. The defense is not bad at all, they lose due to lack of offensive. They have had their trouble with injuries to key guys as well but the next man up for them has been paying off. Nick Bolton is one of those who have taken an opportunity and made the most.
He had 9 tackles and a sack in the loss to Georgia and was all over the field. At the weakside linebacker position, he is trying to lead this team. He has the skill for the pass rush but can pay the run as well. With guys like Kobie Whiteside who had pressure on Fromm all day, to guys like Jatorian Hansford, the Tiger front can put it on your QB.

This will be another week where Trask will have to pass for 250+ again. The running game will roll the same as it has all year, I just don’t see any improvement. The Tigers do have some defensive back can play very well. Jarvis Ware and DeMarkus Acy are very competent and skilled corners.
The receiving group for Florida football is just too experienced and there are so many top receivers trying to cover all of them becomes problems. Pitts should have another big game as once again he causes big problems for those linebackers or safeties.
Result
The upfront game between the Florida offensive line and the Tigers defensive front and backers will be fun to watch. So far the Florida pass protection has been good and Trask has done more than he needs to do. This week he will once again rise and lead the team past Missouri.
The receivers are just too much for the Tigers defense. The defensive backs will have problems covering Pitts and the receivers will run free. They can cover a couple but they won’t cover them all. I expect another big day by Florida receivers.
The Gators will win this and go to 9-2 on the season. On to the next one.
