Year one under McElwain may not be very pretty
As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is a National Championship contender according to the insight we received from the Gators SEC Media Day.

After several rocky seasons of talented, yet inconsistent teams, McElwain essentially stressed patience to Gator fans, since building a title contender is a tough task and with the strength of the SEC, it’ll be even tougher.
By saying things like, “It doesn’t happen overnight” and that being a part of the SEC Conference is knowing that it won’t turn around overnight does two things for McElwain.
It lets fans know that 2015 won’t be very pretty and that it will take a few seasons before you can call the Gators SEC and National Championship contenders.
It may not be something that most fans want to hear, but it’s the correct path for McElwain to highlight.
Don’t expect the Gators to compete for anything this upcoming season but you should expect to see some sort of improvement and consistency on the field.
