The University of Florida will hold players accountable for their actions

Probably one of the more refreshing things to come out Florida’s Media Day is that the football program will hold the players accountable for their off-the-field actions.

With the University of Florida just starting to move past the litany of problem players from Urban Meyer’s teams and the recent trouble Florida State found itself recently, McElwain looks like he’s the opposite of Jimbo Fisher.

In what appears to be in direct correlation with Fishers decision to ban players from going to local bars, McElwain stressed holding players accountable for their decisions, rather than taking decision away from them.

McElwain said, “I can’t tell players what not to do. We have freedom of choice. But none of us have freedom of consequence.”

I am all in favor of allowing players to make decisions on their own and dealing with any repercussions that follow; that’s how better, fully functioning adults are made in our society and it seems McElwain understands that.
