UCF keeps begging for attention and Gator fans still do not have to care

UCF just keeps their one bad joke going and going

One of the things that is somewhat unique for Gator fans is just how many rivals Florida has to fend off. There are, of course, the main rivals of FSU, Georgia, and Tennessee. LSU has become intertwined in Florida lore, and Miami fans will never pass up an opportunity to go after the Gators. Even Kentucky, as a basketball rival, can get pretty fierce.

Then there are the Golden Knights of UCF from Orlando, who desperately want Florida fans to take them seriously and to give them the level of respect that Florida gives all the previously mentioned teams.

The problem is that after their latest trolling attempt on social media, it’s still impossible to take them seriously.

Florida fans can continue to ignore UCF’s cries for help

UCF has been renovating the Bounce House with a $90 million upgrade that will include 28 traditional luxury suites, 34 new outdoor sky suites, and 34 loge boxes for fans who actually want to feel stable on game day and not like the seats below them are about to collapse.

On Wednesday, UCF’s Twitter account shared a drone shot with the caption, “Yes, it’s still there,” which eventually zooms in on their signage that reads “National Champions 2017.”

At this point, it’s like an ongoing bit that sounded funny during a 2 AM bar session that they are either too stubborn or too prideful to admit actively hurts their brand.

UCF fans have made it a point over the years to be among the loudest online the moment anything goes remotely right. Based on our mentions at Hail Florida Hail and the mentions of plenty of other Gator fans, one would have thought UCF won the actual national title when they beat Florida in the Gasparilla Bowl. But conveniently, when a Billy Napier-led offense put up 24 points in a single half in 2024, those same accounts were nowhere to be found.

In a lot of ways, the 2024 game has been a microcosm of UCF’s experience since joining the Big 12.

Excuse me, the Monster Energy Big 12.

Since leaving the American Conference and joining the Monster Energy Big 12, UCF has yet to have a winning season, which is the exact thing fans tried to warn UCF about back in 2017. It’s not to say that the Knights were a bad team in 2017, but they truly believed that what they accomplished in the American Conference rivaled that of a Power Four schedule.

Now in the Power Four conference, UCF is finding life a little more difficult.

Which is why keeping their 2017 claim and openly bragging about it makes it impossible to take them seriously as anything other than the troll in Florida that everyone may notice but no one respects.
