Ahead of matchup with Florida, another UCF player opts to redshirt the 2024 season
We noted yesterday that there was some mystery on who exactly would take the field for UCF when they face Florida Football this Saturday. Wide receiver Xavier Townsend officially announced last night that he would indeed be sitting out the rest of the 2024 season in order to preserve his redshirt status.
Well, news also broke last night that another depth piece for the Knights will also be sitting out for the rest of the season, this time on the already questionable defensive side of the ball.
Florida Football: Sitting Out
Pete Thamel of ESPN broke the news last night that UCF safety Bryon Threats would be sitting out the remainder of 2024 in order to redshirt the season.
Threats transferred to UCF from Cincinnati in the offseason. He played over 600 snaps for the Bearcats in both 2022 and 2023. He had 17 missed tackles in 2023, 30th most in the country among safeties (and the same amount as Florida safety DJ Douglas when he was with Tulane).
Threats played minimal snaps in UCF's first two games, then didn't play any against TCU. He was inserted for 42 snaps against Colorado and had three tackles.
UCF's two main safeties are Quadric Bullard and Sheldon Arnold II, but part of the reason why Threats saw an uptick in snaps against Colorado was Arnold II suffered an injury and only played three snaps last week.
UCF also had Ladarius Tennison and William Wells take snaps at safety last week. Tennison had six tackles on 25 snaps last week.
Kickoff on Saturday is at 7:45 inside The Swamp.
