The week that was with the Gators: Depth-chart surprises, a healthy roster, and FAU arrives

After a long and lengthy offseason, the Gators are finally going to take the field on Saturday to take on FAU at 7:45 PM. Given all the headlines flying around, there are some that Florida fans may have missed.

So we here at Hail Florida Hail are back with a recap of everything that has happened in the past week so you can feel like you know what you are talking about out at the tailgates on Saturday.

FAU week arrives for Florida fans

It feels like we have covered every angle possible this offseason and if we are being blunt on our end, we too are ready to have actual football to talk about. The biggest thing we are going to be looking for on Saturday is how clean the operations look and how well the offensive line holds up.

Florida releases its first depth chart

There weren’t too many surprises on the depth chart for those who have been paying attention. There is still some intrigue at a couple of spots, including at EDGE, where there is a cache of players listed with the “Or” designation, hinting we could see a number of players featured at those spots.

The Gators enter the opener relatively healthy

Unlike past years, when Florida had a laundry list of players who were injured or banged up heading into the opener. According to Jon Sumrall, virtually everyone for Florida is healthy and ready to go.

Jadan Baugh endorses Buster Faulkner’s offense

Florida’s offense has been a massive talking point this offseason with new offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner. The hope for the Gators is that things are going to look more open and free compared to whatever it was the Gators were running the past four years.

Brad White keeps Florida’s defense under wraps

On the other side of the ball, we don’t actually know what version of the defense we are going to get. New DC Brad White didn’t give too much away during his press conference this week.

Sumrall stresses organization and execution

Sumrall has made a ton of references this offseason that he is aware of Florida’s past problems getting 11 players on the field consistently. Saturday will be a chance to showcase how truthful those words have been.

Week 0 gave Florida fans plenty to discuss

The fun part is that we have already had a handful of games to talk about. FSU looked terrible last week against New Mexico State; Dan Mullen and his UNLV squad lost to former Gator commit Marcus Stokes and Memphis; and Southern Cal fans had all the excuses in the world for why they don’t watch their team.

Florida volleyball secures a ranked victory

Shoutout to Florida Volleyball, who pulled off a huge four-set victory over No. 11 Minnesota during the week. The Gators also took No. 5 Wisconsin to a 5th set before just falling short. If you need something to watch while at the tailgate, the Gators take on No. 20 Baylor at 2 PM on Saturday.

Former Gators survive, and fall victim to, NFL cuts

Cut day in the NFL is always stressful and chaotic. Most notably, J. Michael Sturdivant survived cuts and will suit up with the Green Bay Packers this season.

The Hiller family remains a recruiting storyline

From the world of recruiting, top commit Maxwell Hiller is slated to be in The Swamp against FAU. Joining him, though, will be his brother Colton Hiller, who is a top prospect that Todd Golden and Gator Basketball are pursuing.
