Florida finally found a fun offense, but Jon Sumrall refuses to celebrate yet
Florida crushes FAU in Sumrall’s debut
At least on the offensive side, Jon Sumrall’s debut couldn’t have gone much better if he tried. The Gators racked up 66 points off 624 yards. More importantly, the offense felt fun and free-flowing for the first time in years in Gainesville.
Jadan Baugh begins the season with a statement
It’s really hard for a running back to actually win the Heisman, but Jadan Baugh is determined to try in 2026. He ran for 160 yards and three touchdowns off just 14 carries. The sheer number of highlight-reel runs was enough to get people’s attention around the country.
Aaron Philo settles Florida’s quarterback concerns
After a long eight months with a QB battle that elicited plenty of commentary, Aaron Philo was everything he needed to be last Saturday. He went 16 of 21 for 275 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran one in. As a whole, the calls for Tramell Jones are going to be quieted for now.
Sumrall refuses to excuse Florida’s defense
One of the downsides to Florida’s win was the defense playing far too soft and conservative against FAU. Sumrall called the defense “atrocious at times.” Saturday will be a good chance to see if things have improved.
Eric Singleton Jr.’s injury clouds an otherwise great night
On the touchdown from Vernell Brown III, Florida wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. was rolled into while blocking and had to miss the rest of the game with an ankle injury. He is doubtful for Campbell.
Buster Faulkner believes 624 yards were not enough
One would think that 624 yards on offense would be enough to make anyone happy, but on Tuesday, offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner commented that there are still thing Florida could do even better moving forward.
The Swamp felt alive again
It’s hard to quantify, but there was a definitive buzz in The Swamp that had been missing for a long time in Gainesville. Scoring 66 points helps, but fans seemed as juiced up as ever, especially considering it was against FAU.
Florida remains unranked despite the blowout
There is an argument to be made that Florida should have been bumped up after week one, but the AP Poll had some weird inconsistencies to it and the Gators stayed put at No. 27.
The opener provided recruiting momentum
Going back to The Swamp being alive, recruits took notice, as almost every prospect who was in attendance commented just how electric the building was last Saturday.
Campbell becomes a correction game
The scoreboard won’t tell us much this week, but there will be some things Florida can correct against Campbell, such as the conservative defense and the snap issues from center Harrison Moore.
