There wasn’t much for Florida fans to smile about in 2025 as the team went 4-8 and Billy Napier got fired. Ironically, Napier’s last game as Florida’s head coach was a win over Mississippi State, a game the Gators tried to blow but were bailed out by Michai Boireau’s late-game interception.
But as is life in modern-day college football, Boireau won’t be around for the 2026 season as he is off to the transfer portal.
Michai Boireau to transfer
Boireau was actually one of the few success stories to emerge from the class of 2024, which is shrinking by the day. He was originally a low-tier three-star defensive lineman who did have some decent size to him coming out of high school. His journey to Gainesville was winding as he committed to Florida in June of 2023, then decommitted in September of 2023, only to recommit and sign in December of 2023.
Despite his profile, Boireau did get snaps right away as a true freshman, taking 144 snaps in 2024. Notably, he took 23 snaps in the bowl game against Tulane and had three tackles in that game.
His role increased this past season, taking 296 snaps total and often taking 30+ snaps a game. Injuries did slow him down, but he was credited with eight QB pressures on the season.
His signature moment as a Gator came against Mississippi State, when the Bulldogs were in field goal range for a potential game-winning field goal. Boireau dropped into a slant window and picked off the pass to seal the win and prevent the upset. Outside of a kneel down, it would be the last play Napier took part in before getting fired the next day.

Boireau will still have two years of eligibility remaining. He is now the 10th member of the class of 2024 to have hit the transfer portal.
