Should Urban Meyer’s call hit the mark, Florida fans are in for a rude awakening

A picture is being painted that the computer rankings for the Florida Gators and the human rankings haven't quite been in sync this offseason. While numerous human projections have Florida contending for a playoff spot, computer projections have Florida scrapping to get to seven wins in 2025.

So, as predictions continue to roll in, former Gator coach and current Fox Sports analyst Urban Meyer weighed in on what he thinks is in store for Florida in 2025.

And if his prediction holds true, it might lead to a pink slip for Billy Napier.

Urban Meyer's prediction would get Billy Napier fired

Appearing on the Triple Option Podcast, Meyer acknowledged the difficulty of Florida's schedule.

But with DJ Lagway at the helm, Meyer believes Florida will beat LIU, USF, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Tennesee, and FSU.

He also believes Florida will lose to LSU and Georgia.

Now, if you are keeping score at home, that gets us to 6-2, which doesn't sound too bad. But Meyer also has the games against Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss as toss-ups.

If Florida were to split those four games, that would get Florida to 8-4 for 2025.

We can muse about the schedule, but the simple reality is that 8-4 won't get Florida into the playoffs in 2025. And there is no other way to slice it than anything short of the playoffs in Billy Napier's fourth season with DJ Lagway in command simply isn't good enough.

It's a minor miracle Napier is still here after getting blown out by Texas to fall to 15-19 as Florida's head coach, but the four-game winning streak to close out 2024 helped steady the ship and give Gator fans a feeling of hope going into 2025.

Now, if Napier can win all those toss-up games and finish 10-2, Florida makes the playoffs, and this is all a moot point.

But 8-4 wouldn't be progress; it would be the same stagnant nonsense that Gator fans had to endure during the first two and a half years of the Napier Era before the four-game winning streak.
