Week four of the college football season is upon us and there will be plenty of hype and excitement as Florida is set to take on Ole Miss in The Swamp at 3:30. Both teams will enter Saturday 3-0. But there are plenty of other exciting games taking place in the SEC on Saturday as well.
So, factoring in when Florida plays and the quality of matchups, this is our ranking of which SEC games Florida fans need to watch and which ones they can skip on Saturday.
Week 4 SEC watch guide for Florida fans
8. Tulsa at Arkansas: 8 PM, SEC Network+, Arkansas -7
Arkansas also has a new coach, and Razorback fans have already given up. And if Arkansas fans have given up, there isn’t much reason for Florida fans to tune in.
7. South Alabama at Kentucky: 12:45 PM, SEC Network, Kentucky -20.5
After their big win last week, Kentucky is a bit more intriguing than before. But this is th only other non-conference of the day, and South Alabama isn’t that interesting of an opponent, so this is skippable.
6. Vanderbilt at Auburn: 4:15 PM, SEC Network, Auburn -9.5
Now that Auburn is in the rear view mirror, there isn’t much of a reason to pay attention to them. Vanderbilt is still down the road and is coming off one of the wildest finishes in modern history, but they still are not viewed as much of a threat. Combine this with the fact that it's at the same time as Florida and Ole Miss, and this is one that will get skipped.
5. Oklahoma at Georgia: 3:30 PM, ESPN, Georgia -14
At the start of the season, this was one of the higher-profile games of the season. But Oklahoma has cratered in a heartbeat, and the fact that it is a 14-point spread, combined with a kickoff that is at the same time as Florida, and it is going to be hard to have your full attention on this one.
4. South Carolina at Alabama: 7 PM, ESPN, Alabama -12.5
We had mused aloud prior to the season if Florida’s game against South Carolina could be Shane Beamer’s swan song, and following their loss last week to Mississippi State, we could be getting closer to that reality. The Gamecocks are capable of putting up points, which gives the potential of things being interesting.
3. Texas A&M at LSU: 7:30 PM, ABC, LSU -8.5
This was also expected to be a higher-ranked showdown than it is, as both teams are coming off a loss. The beauty of the zero-sum game, however, is that one of these two teams will be pushed to the brink of playoff elimination after week four.
2. Missouri at Mississippi State: 7:45 PM, SEC Network, Mississippi State -6.5
Don’t look now, but Mississippi State is on the verge of getting a bit of momentum and being one of the genuine suprise teams of the SEC early on in the season. Florida plays Missouri next week, so there will be a ton of intrigue and interest for Gator fans to tune in.
1. Texas at Tennessee: 12 PM, ABC, Texas -4.5
By far the most notable game to check out beyond Florida’s game, this matchup falls in an ideal time slot to go right into Florida’s kickoff. Given Tennessee’s schedule, a win by the Volunteers creates a clear pathway for them to make the playoffs. Texas can absorb a loss because of their Ohio State win, but a win would also make them a near lock for the playoffs.
