It has been a wild season for Florida Basketball. They were seen as a fringe Sweet 16 squad when the season began and quickly morphed into a national title contender by the time SEC play rolled around. By the time the NCAA Tournament began, the Gators felt like a team of destiny and last night secured their 3rd national title in program history.
Now that we have time to reflect, let's hand out some report card grades for all the Gators for the 2024/25 season.
Florida Basketball: School's Out For Summer
He didn't play this year and took a redshirt, but he took his viral moments all year in stride and seemed like he was enjoying himself.
So for that, he gets an A.
The walk-on from Santa Fe College is probably good enough to be a role guy at a different D1 school.
So for that, he gets an A.
Here is how deep Florida was with their bigs this year: The Gators didn't even need to play 6'11" this year.
So for that, he gets an A.
He only played four minutes all season, but he was a constant hype man on the bench and put together some great TikToks behind the scenes.
So for that, he gets an A.
The viral sensation himself, the former manager turned walk on had one of the best moments of the SEC Tournament when he scored his first career points on an iso play.
So for that, he gets an A.
The guard from Lithuania had four rebounds and two assists against Stetson.
So for that, he gets an A.
The freshman got learn from Florida's deep rotation of guards and his time will come in 2025/26.
So for that, he gets an A.
He didn't have to come back this year after breaking his leg against Auburn, but Micah Handlogten was hell bent not to miss this national title run. He wound up being a key rotation piece for Gators to help spread the minutes around.
So for that, he gets an A.
It was an up-and-down season for Urban Klavzar, who made his presence known midway through the season. His usefulness fell off, and he wasn't used down the stretch. But even when benched, he didn't pout and seemed excited to be with the Gators.
So for that, he gets an A.
Injuries derailed the season for Sam Alexis, who was being used as a rotational guy before getting hurt. But he did make it back to be available if needed during the NCAA Tournament.
So for that, he gets an A.
A solid defensive presence all season long in the paint, Rueben Chinyelu gave the Gators solid rebounding and physicality when needed.
So for that, he gets an A.
Denzel Aberdeen could have transferred in the offseason to another power program for better NIL money and/or more playing time, but he embraced his role coming off the bench to average 7.7 points a game this year.
So for that, he gets an A.
Probably no player took a bigger leap forward than Thomas Haugh this season. After averaging close to 10 points a game and saving Florida against Texas Tech, Haugh is now viewed as a potential 2nd round draft pick in the NBA.
So for that, he gets an A.
Alex Condon didn't have a great NCAA Tournament, but he kept finding a way to step up in big moments and it was Condon that dove on the ball to secure the national title for the Gators,
So for that, he gets an A.
He may have taken a backseat at times compared to the other stars on the roster, but Florida doesn't win a national title without Will Richard. His 18 points in the title game allowed Florida to keep contact before the rest of the squad caught up.
So for that, he gets an A.
Forgot the on the court play, Alijah Martin felt like the glue guy for the Gators all season long and felt like the type of player who wasn't willing to let any of his teammates slack off. Martin understood the standard was title or bust.
So for that, he gets an A.
Florida's star of stars navigated himself into the national conversation and has navigated himself into being a potential lottery pick in the NBA Draft. He is a bonafide member of Florida's Mount Rushmore and his status will forever be set in stone in Gainesville.
So for that, he gets an A.
