Furman transfer JP Pegues set to visit Florida basketball
By Will Thomas
Florida basketball is narrowing down who they want to go after in the transfer portal, and have started to schedule visits with the player that Golden wants to add to his roster.
The Gators have already scheduled a visit with Drexel transfer Amari Williams, and now have a visit scheduled with one of the top scorers from the Southern Conference.
JP Pegues, a junior guard from Furman is in the transfer portal, and is set to make a trip to Gainesville to meet with Golden and the Gators.
JP is a high-powered scorer who will be a dynamic part of whichever offense he ends up in next season.
Florida basketball: Already on the map
If the name JP Pegues sounds familiar, it's because he made one of the most iconic shots in recent March Madness history last season when Furman upset Virginia after a wild final sequence.
After this shot put him on the map, Pegues came back this season and was even more dangerous for the Paladins.
He started all 30 games he played in this year and was on the floor for over 34 minutes per game. He scored 18.4 PPG on 42% from the field and 36.2% from three-point range. He's an 87.5% free throw shooter who also dished out 4.8 assists per game while swiping 1.2 steals.
Pegues had a season high of 35 points this season, with one other game over 30 and 13 more games where he surpassed 20 points.
With an assist/turnover ratio of 2.3, it's clear that JP is capable of not just scoring, but also running the offense as the point guard at a high level.
With Zyon Pullin graduating and uncertainty around what Walter Clayton Jr. will do next season, bringing in experienced guards with proven numbers is very important for Golden in the transfer portal.
