Postgame DJ Lagway quote reminds Florida fans this season can't end soon enough

Florida quarterback DJ Lagway didn't exactly lean into hope and positivity after the Gators' 10-point loss to the Ole Miss Rebels.

Well, the Gators are officially on a three-game losing streak and are flying toward a season with only three of four wins to their name.

After Florida's most recent loss, a 10-point defeat at the hands of the Ole Miss Rebels, not even starting quarterback DJ Lagway could find a light at the end of the tunnel.

"This has been emotionally draining," Lagway said. "This whole year, to be honest, all the way back to January."

Lagway did, however, concede that he isn't giving up all hope and will continue working to get better, but never specified if that was with the Gators in the future or not.

"This has been draining, but I'm going to continue to get better, continue to work, continue to strive for greatness," Lagway said.

DJ Lagway isn't having fun anymore

It can't feel good to have a 3-7 overall record. Not to mention, losing the head coach who brought you into the program and named you as the team's starting quarterback. It should come as no surprise at all that Lagway couldn't help but describe this year as "draining" and nothing else.

As the Gators continue to flounder, Lagway has had to lean on those around him to stay motivated and moving forward.

"Just trying to keep my family surrounded around me," Lagway said. "Just being able to have the great teammates I have to keep me grounded, keep me uplifted. Main reason why I do it is because of them."

Lagway and the rest of the Gators are currently under the leadership of interim head coach Billy Gonzales, who was far from pleased by the outcome of Saturday's matchup, including Lagway's performance against the Rebels.

"I talked about that before: there's a time to try to extend the play, but there's also a time to understand you've just got to be able to pull the ball down and run, or get the ball out of our hands at certain times," Gonzales said of Lagway's interception. "It's a learning experience, obviously, but we can't throw back across our body, especially when we're coming back to the left."

Lagway finished the game with just 218 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He earned a minimal 34 yards on the ground but did have a carry for a touchdown. His performance just wasn't good enough to push Florida to the win.

Next, the Gators have to face the No. 23 Tennessee Volunteers before taking on an in-state rival, the Florida State Seminoles, to close out the regular season. The team won't be able to qualify for a bowl game, but a few big-time wins to close out the year clearly wouldn't hurt.
