Florida's win over LIU wasn't expected to turn many heads in the week two rankings. The Gators did what they needed to do to cruise by LIU 55-0 and start the season 1-0.

So while Florida's real schedule is about to ramp up, the Gators did get a slight bump in the rankings from their showing on Saturday.

Coaches Poll Bumps Florida Up Two Spots

In the Coaches Poll, the Gators moved up two spots from No. 17 to No. 15. The Gators leapfrogged SMU straight up, who beat East Texas A&M 42-13, and moved up by default after the previous No. 8 Alabama faceplanted against FSU and was dropped down to No. 20.

Notable about the Coaches Poll is that Ole Miss is ranked ahead of Florida and comes in one spot ahead at No. 14.

Florida moves up in AP Poll as well

Florida also moved up two spots in the AP Poll, going from No. 15 to No. 13. In addition to Alabama dropping 13 spots, the Gators also jumped over Michigan, which beat New Mexico 34-17.

FSU is on the heels of Florida in the AP Poll, sitting at No. 14, and with Ole Miss also moving up a spot, the Gators now have seven top 20 opponents on their schedule for 2025, as well as No. 22 Tennessee.

Interestingly enough, USF got votes but did not get ranked following their win over No. 25 Boise State.

It's been 87 years...

Perhaps the biggest tidbit is the fact that Florida is ranked ahead of Alabama. According to Scott Carter of FloridaGators.com, this is the first time since the 2009 SEC title game that Florida has been ranked ahead of Alabama in any AP Poll.

Looking Ahead

As it stands now, if the AP Poll were the final say, the Gators would be on the outside looking in for the playoffs. But with eight top 25 opponents currently on their schedule, Florida is going to get more than its fair share of opportunity to prove itself.

After the USF game starts Florida's stretch against No. 5 Miami, No. 3 LSU, No. 7 Texas, and No. 19 Texas A&M.
