One of the offseason storylines for the Florida Gators was the late transfers of Gregory Smith and D'Antre Robinson to North Carolina to join Bill Belichick. Had the two stayed in Gainesville, both would have had a clear pathway to playing time in 2025.

But instead, both got to open their 2025 campaign with a blowout loss on national television and have many wondering if the duo has buyer's remorse.

Florida duo part of North Carolina blowout

After a positive opening drive for the Tar Heels that led to a touchdown, everything went south for North Carolina as they were blown out by TCU 48-14.

Robinson was on the field for 37 snaps and was credited with one tackle. He had zero QB hurries and earned a PFF grade of 61.3.

Smith saw the field for a grand total of three plays and made one tackle to earn a PFF grade of 52.5.

Both originally came to Gainesville as part of the class of 2024 as high upside players who would have had a pathway to snaps in 2025.

Robinson, in particular, played 162 snaps last year at defensive tackle and had a solid game to end the season against FSU. Given the depth issues at defensive tackle in 2025, Robinson would have been well north of 200 snaps this year with Florida.

Smith probably wouldn't have been a starter for Florida in 2025, but he would have gotten more than three snaps. He wasn't seen much in 2024, but he did take 49 snaps against FSU and was only targeted once in that game.

Due to injuries to the secondary, Smith had been getting 1st team reps in spring camp before he opted to transfer and not take part in the spring game itself.

Robinson followed Smith about a week later to Chapel Hill.
