Coming out of the spring game, we noted that Florida football's weakest unit was at defensive tackle. The Gators graduated a litany of players from last year, didn't add anyone out of the transfer portal, had some injuries within the unit ahead of the spring game, and Florida's running backs shredded the depth defensive tackles that took the field.

So given the lack of depth, it is never a great thing when one of the projected rotational players hits the transfer portal this late.

D'Antre Robinson sails away from the Florida Gators

Multiple outlets reported yesterday that D'Antre Robinson would be hitting the transfer portal. He is the second Florida player to hit the spring transfer portal after Gregory Smith III.

Three of the four recruiting services rated Robinson as a four-star prospect in the class of 2024, with On3 and Rivals rating him as a top 200 player.

Robinson originally signed with Texas but was released from his letter of intent and made his way to Gainesville.

We noted at the time that:

"At 6'4''-315, Robinson already has SEC size before he even steps foot on the practice field. As he continues to develop his technique and adjust to college football, he can be a serious problem for opposing offenses."

Robinson played 162 snaps in 2024 as a true freshman. His best game came against FSU when he got 27 snaps and had a sack. While the rest of his year wasn't too impactful, there was hope he could be a rotational piece for Florida in 2025, given the lack of options at defensive tackle.

With the departure of Robinson, Florida doesn't have anyone on the roster outside of Caleb Banks, who took more than 150 snaps at defensive tackle in 2024.

Florida is getting Jamari Lyons back after missing 2024 due to injury, but with Robinson's leaving, that means behind Lyons and Banks is Brien Taylor Jr. and Michai Boireau.
