When Tommy Douglas committed to Florida back in April, there wasn’t a ton of fanfare surrounding the tight end from New Jersey. He was ranked at the time outside the top 500, and he was amidst a wave of Gator commits who had higher rankings.
But we said back in April when he committed that Douglas has a physical edge to him, and a new video of his summer workouts highlights the type of player Florida fans will be getting as part of the class of 2027.
Gator commit Tommy Douglas has a massive power clean
Douglas took to social media to post a video of himself during his offseason workouts. In the video, Douglas is shown doing a 315-pound power clean with room to spare. It’s a small glimpse into the power Douglas showcased on film, and part of what led Jon Sumrall to target him.

When Douglas committed back in April, and he was still ranked No. 679, we said:
“His film paints a picture of a guy who should be way higher than the 679th player in the country because there isn’t a single high school roster in America that wouldn’t take Douglas in a heartbeat. What first stands out is his willingness to maul dudes in the trenches. He’s not a tight end who blocks just well enough not to get called out on it; he genuinely seems to enjoy driving opposing EDGEs to the ground. If Douglas were just a bit bigger, he could probably pass off as an offensive lineman prospect for Florida.”
Douglas has seen his ranking rise since April, and he is starting to look like one of the recruiting gems from this class. He is still a three-star on Rivals and 247, but ESPN has him as a four-star, and overall, he is up to No. 367 and a composite four-star.
The exciting thing about a player like Douglas is that he feels like the type of player who will thrive once he gets into the weight room in Gainesville. New strength coach Rusty Whitt has made it a point of emphasis not to let players get comfortable, and Douglas seems like someone who will respond once he's in his system.
With a solid senior campaign, Douglas could get that fourth star with Rivals and 247 and wind up being one of the recruiting steals for Sumrall in the class of 2027.
