One bright spot Florida fans can trust with Billy Gonzales in charge

Everything felt clean for Florida on Saturday

Among the downfalls of Billy Napier was his inability to make anything look organized on gameday. As much as Napier would talk about wanting Florida to be "process-oriented," the Gators frequently made errors that wouldn't be accepted on a JV football squad.

So while the Gators lost to Georgia and there are plenty of moments that Florida fans would want back, there is a silver lining that Billy Gonzales had the entire operation looking clean.

Florida avoids mental errors against Georgia

It seems like such a simple thing, but Florida had 11 players on the field for every play. At no point did the Gators have to take a timeout coming out of a timeout. In fact, Florida never really seemed threatened to take a delay of the game and broke the snap with plenty of time to spare all afternoon long.

The decision-making from Gonzales was mostly sound, and his choice to go for it on 4th and 1 rather than kick a field goal was made without any hesitation.

Combined with the fact that Gonzales was actually wearing team colors rather than insisting on wearing black, as well as the fact that Gonzales actually looked like he was invested in the game rather than standing on the sidelines with his arms folded, it was a breath of fresh air for all Gator fans.

Coaching 101

It's not saying that being animated automatically makes one a great coach. Will Muschamp is Exhibit A of that.

But one never got a sense that Napier had any real passion for the end result of the game.

Compare that to the post-game comments of Gonzales after the loss:

"Obviously, we're not here for moral victories. We came up short, and we came here to win. So we have to continue to work to get better.

Overall, this group of men in there, just had a chance to talk with, I told them I respect them. I respect them for the way they handled change over the past week. Respect them how resilient they've been over the past week. I respect how they've responded and taken ownership of this team.

I'm extremely proud of them. But I know they're hurting, our staff is hurting, I'm hurting. We came here to win, and we fell short.

Gators expect a winner, so we have to get ready to get back to work. Got four more games ready to roll, we can win. We have to continue to get better in all facets of the game."

That's the mindset Gator fans want, and while Gonzales might not be in the running to be the permanent head coach for the Gators, there was a lot to like about his demeanor from Saturday.
