Florida's loss to Georgia could be defined by a number of plays the Gators would like back, but none bigger than the failed 4th and one call in the 4th quarter. The Gators could have opted for a field goal to extend their lead to six points, but instead went for a halfback dive that was stopped short.
Georgia would score on its next drive and take the lead for good.
Interim coach Bily Gonzales was asked about the decision to go for it after the game, and it sounds like he would do it again if he could.
Billy Gonzales has no regrets
Gonzales was asked about the decision during his post-game press conference and didn't have second thoughts about going for it:
"No. No second thoughts. We will take a look on film and see what happened. I haven't had a chance to look at it or review it yet. Obviously critical play for us, but never going to second guess it.
Our guys, you know, we had to go for it. We had to go for it. If you kick a field goal you're still down. If they go down and score you're still down a point. We will take a look and see where we went wrong, but no second guessing as far as the play that was called."
To the point Gonzales is making, Jadan Baugh had been starting to gash Georgia, and it seemed like a safe call to give him the ball. The failed 4th down play was one of the only times he was stopped all game.
Baugh finished with 72 yards rushing on 15 attempts and a touchdown. He also had three catches for 17 yards.
But one can't help but think if Baugh could have had 73 yards rushing, what could have been for the Gators in Jacksonville.
