One week into spring camp, things are humming along for Florida Football. As is the case every spring, we are mostly relegated to small glimpses of the Gators here and there combined with what the coaching staff is telling people in press conferences.
With that in mind, here are the biggest storylines to emerge one week into camp.
DJ Lagway is still not throwing in public
There were some eyebrows raised last week when Billy Napier told everyone that DJ Lagway would be limited this spring due to his hamstring and his shoulder.
Lagway injured his hamstring against Georgia and missed the game against Texas before returning for the final four games. The shoulder issue caught people off guard, and even though Lagway had mentioned back in September he had a lingering issue with his shoulder, most people had forgotten about it, and one would assume his shoulder would heal with time off.
The fact that Lagway didn't throw this past week isn't worth hitting the panic button over, but it is worth keeping an eye on.
Wide receivers look explosive
We here at Hail Florida Hail have raised question marks about the wide receiver room heading into 2025. While it is a group that has a high ceiling, the floor for this group is also extremely low. The reality is that the actual on-field production for this group in 2024 was low across the board.
But at least in the open viewing session, this group has looked the part, and all look like they could be shot out of a cannon. Whether or not it will translate into them catching the ball remains to be seen.
Jayden Woods is becoming the "it" guy this spring
Every spring there is at least one new face who becomes the "it" guy that gets his name tossed around as someone who is impressing out of the gate.
Jayden Woods is that guy for this camp. When Woods initially committed to Florida back in November, we noted that he was a rangy EDGE with speed, but we did have some concerns about whether he could hold up power-wise against SEC tackles.
Based on insider reports, Woods has a mean streak in practice, which is showing up in a positive way and causing havoc along the offensive line.
Is this the year for Cormani McClain?
The never-ending saga of Cormani McClain is having its hype train start to build again. He is listed at 182 pounds, which is 20 pounds more than what he was listed as last year. He has also been noted for his speed testing this offseason.
Given injuries to the rest of Florida's secondary, McClain is getting every opportunity to showcase whether or not he is the guy in 2025.
